Product ModelNAIL06-4
Product DescriptionRFID Nail tag for trees is a low-frequency electrical tag widely used in non-metallic products management, security inspection, packaging of army goods, and marking of bags and vehicles. The installing method is putting the nail tag in the goods after drilling a hole in the good's surface. The diameter of the hole is suggested to be smaller than 5*33mm, and should be knocked in by rubber hammer. It can be used in non-metallic products like cement, prefabricated products, plastics and wood.

Embedded RFID Nail Tag for Forestry & Timber Traceability

In the demanding world of forestry and timber logistics, maintaining a reliable chain of custody for every log is a persistent challenge. Traditional identification methods like spray paint, paper tags, or plastic staples often fail under the harsh realities of outdoor storage, transport abrasion, and milling processes. Our NAIL06-4 RFID nail tag is engineered specifically to solve this problem by embedding the digital identity directly into the wood itself. By securely seating the transponder inside the log or pallet, the NAIL06-4 ensures that critical data—such as harvest origin, species, quality grade, and ownership—remains intact from the forest to the processing plant.

Rugged Build for Outdoor Yards, Wet Conditions, and Mechanical Handling

Constructed with a robust D6×36mm nylon body and fully encapsulated in industrial-grade epoxy, this tag achieves an IP67 protection rating. This rugged design is impervious to rain, snow, mud, and the sap that naturally exudes from timber. The nylon material offers excellent impact resistance, preventing the tag from shattering when driven into hardwoods or dense composite materials. Its low-profile, black design allows for discreet installation, reducing the risk of intentional tampering or accidental dislodging during mechanical handling with grapples and loaders. For forestry projects that also deploy other rugged identifiers—such as RFID Nail Tag formats for different wood densities or installation depths—the same embedding approach keeps IDs protected throughout handling.

Simple Field Installation That Becomes Part of the Asset

Installation is straightforward and requires no specialized power tools, making it ideal for field operations. A simple drilled hole prepares the surface, and the tag is driven in flush with a rubber mallet, becoming an integral part of the asset. This method is far superior to surface-mounted tags that can be easily scraped off. In mixed environments where teams also manage personnel access or time logging with RFID Wristbands, the same idea applies: reliable identification works best when it stays secure through daily wear, impacts, and weather exposure.

Frequency, Protocol, and Chip Options for Easy System Integration

Technologically, the NAIL06-4 offers immense flexibility to system integrators. We provide versions across all major RFID frequency bands: 125KHz and 134.2KHz for Low Frequency (LF) systems, and 13.56MHz for High Frequency (HF) applications. Protocol support is equally comprehensive, covering ISO11784/11785, ISO14443A, and ISO15693 standards. This allows forestry managers to utilize existing handheld readers or gate portals without costly infrastructure overhauls. The chip options range from simple read-only unique identifiers (UID) like the EM4200 to advanced read/write memory chips such as the MIFARE DESFire or ICODE SLIX, which can store detailed maintenance records or processing history directly on the asset.

Long-Term Asset Visibility Across Multi-Asset Tracking Programs

With a data retention capability of 10 years, this tag is a long-term investment in asset visibility, ensuring that even after years of seasoning or storage, your inventory remains accounted for. Many organizations extend the same traceability mindset beyond timber—using durable identifiers for waste containers and mobile assets as well, such as RFID Waste Bin Tags in municipal programs and RFID Tire Tags in fleet maintenance—so asset history can be captured consistently across different departments and environments.

FAQ

Q1: Can this nail tag withstand the pressure of stacking logs in a timber yard?

A1: Yes, the nylon and epoxy construction is designed to resist high compression and impact forces, ensuring the internal chip remains functional even when logs are stacked or moved by heavy machinery.

Q2: Is it possible to encode specific harvest data onto the tag in the field?

A2: Absolutely. If you choose a read/write chip option like ICODE SLIX or MIFARE Classic, operators can write data such as harvest date, location, and species directly to the tag using a compatible handheld writer.

Q3: Will the tag's performance be affected if the wood becomes waterlogged?

A3: No, the IP67 rating ensures the tag is fully waterproof. While water content in wood can slightly affect RF range, the LF and HF frequencies used are generally robust against moisture interference compared to UHF.

Q4: How does the "embedded" installation protect the tag better than a surface label?

A4: By sitting inside the material, the tag is shielded from direct abrasion, UV degradation, and impacts that would typically tear or fade a surface label, ensuring much higher long-term survivability.
